The Beginning of Another Johnson Era?

Now leading second-place Matt Kenseth by 28 points in the Sprint Cup Series point standings, point leader Jimmie Johnson now has a comfortable leading going into Homestead, a track that has shown consistency for the five-time champ. Jimmie now has a great chance to become a six-time champion and win his sixth championship in seven years (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and possibly 2013). But now, a dark horse has been thrown into the ring. Mathematically, due to this weekend's win at Phoenix, Kevin Harvick has a chance to win the 2013 championship in his last season with Richard Childress Racing, the team that has shaped and developed Harvick since 2000. Harvick is leaving for Stewart-Haas Racing in 2014. What a special championship this would be for Kevin "Happy" Harvick. The only problem is well, Jimmie Johnson... Johnson would HAVE to have either an accident early in the race, a blown engine, or just a horrible race for Johnson's championship to slip out of his fingers. That would open the door for Kenseth to try and win his second-career Cup championship (Kenseth won the 2003 then-named Winston Cup Series championship). Although if Johnson AND Kenseth have horrible problems, and Harvick continues in his hot streak, then don't count Happy out of the title out.

Sunday's race at Homestead has a slim possibility of being exciting, but you never know. When it comes to NASCAR, ANYTHING CAN AND WILL HAPPEN.
